For attorneys
Pro bono work, matched to the states you are actually admitted in.
What we ask for
- Every state you are admitted in, with the bar number for each and the year of admission.
- The issues you work on, or want to.
- Roughly how much time you can give, so we do not send you work you cannot take.
How the state list is used
It is the hard constraint on matching, not a preference. A role on a campaign can be marked as requiring admission in a particular state, and in that case only an attorney with a verified licence in that state can take it — the system will not let anyone else put their name forward, whatever else their profile says.
That is deliberate. Matching an attorney to a matter in a state where they are not admitted is not a scheduling error; it is an invitation to the unauthorised practice of law, and the consequences land on the attorney.
Verification
Each licence you add starts unverified. A person checks it against that state's bar records and marks it verified. You can add licences at any time; each is checked separately, so you may be verified in one state while another is still pending.
Your professional obligations are yours
We do not supervise your work and we are not co-counsel. Conflict checking, competence in the matter, client confidentiality, malpractice cover and your state's advertising rules all remain entirely your responsibility. Several states regulate how a lawyer may be listed in a referral directory — check yours before you ask us to publish your profile.
Pro bono work taken through us is still your matter. We will tell you what we know about a case; we will not tell you whether to take it.
